What’s new on iOS Software?

Apple’s new iOS 11 Software is finally here and already has the users enthralled. The multinational technology company, Apple announced the launch of the iPhone trio for the year 2017 with iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. They will be first phones to be launched on the new operating system, which is now available as a public beta. So even if you’re not planning to upgrade to the latest iPhone this year, you can install the iOS 11 on your current iPhone or iPad.

With the new software iOS 11, the biggest changes can be navigated in the App Store, the Control Center; Apple’s voice assistant Siri and the AR software that enables users to engage the virtual world with your own. This is just the gist; iOS 11 beta is packed with a lot of cool features. Let’s see what new iOS 11 have for us;

1) New App Store Design

Apple completely redesigned its App Store, giving it an entirely new interface, featuring a bold typeface and emphasized imagery. The new design has considerably improved the apps buying and downloading experience for the users. The Today tab is enhanced to include curated collections, how-to guides and serves much as a ‘daily destination’. The App pages are revamped to help the users get a better viewing of ratings, reviews, video previews etc. The search is improved by results showing various tips, tricks, developers etc and in-app purchases are made more streamlined.

2) Blue bar indicating Location Access

iOS 11 is on a mission to restrict the apps that are overstepping in terms of
tracking user’s location data iOS 11 features a prominent blue status bar that shows when an app running in the background is actively using the user’s location. The blue bar in iOS 11 goes a step further to let the users know when the app that is set to “Always” is actively tracking the location. Apart from selecting the options “Always” and “Never’, in apps asking for location access, iOS 11 came with a third option, “While Using the App”, which can be enabled for any app even if the developer has not made it available.

3) Easy Screen Recording

The Screen Recording tool in iOS 11 allows you to record and narrate your
iPhone’s or iPad screen, instead of just capturing a boring screenshot. Here’s how it’s done.

Open Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls then tap the green plus button next to Screen Recording.

4) Customizable Control Centre

Control Centre also underwent a big change in iOS 11 by becoming even more customizable. Users can still access their timer, camera, Airplane mode, Bluetooth, flashlight and audio playback controls and other Home app shortcuts. But they can also customize it to their own usability by adding more!

5) Do Not Disturb while Driving Mode

iOS 11 added a ‘Do Not Disturb while Driving’ mode that stops notifications. If someone sends you a message, iOS 11 automatically responds by sending a message back that you cannot respond. This mode activates itself on the user’s movement and when you are connected to the car stereo.

6) Type Instead of Talk to Siri

Apple’s voice assistant Siri often mishears the commands or is unable to respond correctly. In iOS 11 you can now type your questions to Siri to avoid it mishearing you. This is particularly useful when you’re sitting in a quiet place in a library or a coffee shop and wish to ask Siri something. It can be enabled by;

Settings > General > Accessibility > Siri and toggle on Type to Siri.

By long-pressing the Home button, Siri will display the familiar “What can I help you with?” question, this time with a search bar and keyboard!

7) Give Your Thumb less Distance to Stretch when Typing

Many users use the VoiceOver’s touch typing or direct touch mode when using the onscreen keyboard, whilst typing with the thumb that’s holding the phone. The one-handed option makes things easier for such users. By doing a 1 finger double-tap and holding the emoji key on the keyboard, you can select left or right handed from the resulting menu. This allows the keys to be moved to that side of the screen, leaving the thumb with less distance to stretch.

How to Update iOS 11?

The new iO11 is compatible with 64-bit devices. Only the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPad 4 cannot support the new operating software.
